Journey to the White House

LOS ANGELES—On Tuesday, March 16^th at 5:00 p.m., KNBC-TV 4 Los Angeles featured Dorsey High School’s “Cooking Our Way to the White House” story.  The Barack Obama Digital Media Team at Crenshaw High School and Dorsey High’s Culinary Arts partners have been working hard to turn their dream of visiting the White House into reality.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Some local high school students are on a quest. They want to earn an invitation to the White House from the president and the first lady. And they’re doing it with the help of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus.

A non-profit group is providing the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus to record the students’ letters and music. They can imagine their hard work resulting in an invite to the White House.

Once the work is done inside the bus, the whole thing will be put together and shipped off to Washington, D.C. They’ve already received donations at Crenshaw High School for the airline tickets, so now the ball is in the president’s court. The kids are waiting for the invitation.

The non-profit group Mother of Many, or M.O.M., an organization that works with high school students to improve their grades through the use of digital media, will make sure the DVD gets into the right hands back in Washington, D.C.

“We had someone donate some money already, so we just need the invitation. So as soon as we schedule that date, I’m calling the airlines, we’re booking the tickets, and we’ll be there,” said coordinator and M.O.M. founder and director Daphne Bradford.

If the invitation comes, the multimedia students from Crenshaw High will be joined by the culinary arts students from Dorsey High School, who hope to tour the White House kitchen.
