Dear President Obama:
As Organizing for America’s California State Director, I meet a lot of people out there. But it wasn’t until I met Daphne Bradford, an Apple Corporation Distinguished Educator and founder of the nonprofit educational organization “Mother of Many,” that I became compelled to write to you.
I met Daphne during an Organizing for America “Listening Tour” stop in South Los Angeles. She told me about the students she teaches and mentors as part of her Digital Media Team at two low-income high schools in the heart of South L.A. Daphne practically ordered me to come speak to her students about how they can stay involved in the political system. She explained that they had fed and nourished an entire office full of volunteers for several weeks during the Presidential campaign, and wanted to remain active.
When I met Daphne’s students and saw them interact with her, I fell in love with the whole group. I learned that the team was the first group to earn digital media literacy certification in Apple Inc’s software application iLife. I watched them work with Daphne, taking pictures and videotapes of our day together. I heard their informed questions about our political system and how our new President would make change.
And then I learned about their “Journey to the White House” campaign which includes student video letters to you, Mr. President, on their website, www. Whitehousejourney.com requesting an official visit at the White House with you and the First Lady.
That is why I am writing to you today. Daphne is someone who is working every day to make the change we all voted for really happen. She and her students would make the perfect guests for a White House visit and I hope that you will be able to accommodate their desire to visit you there.
